Women’s World Boxing Championships in Qinhuangdao, China

The LAST WOMAN STANDING team is currently in Qinhuangdao, China, for the Women’s World Boxing Championships.

Producer Aisling Chin-Yee, Directors Juliet Lammers and Lorraine Price, DOP Julien Fontaine, and Sound Recordist Lynne Trepanier will all be following Olympic hopeful, Mary Spencer, her coach, Charlie Stewart, and a number of other women boxers competing to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics.

This is the last stop before the Olympics, so stay tuned for updates and photos!

Rhymes for Young Ghouls wins coveted Tribeca All Access Creative Promise Award!

Jeff Barnaby’s Rhymes for Young Ghouls beat out 700 scripts from across North and South America to win the Tribeca All Access Creative Promise Award for Narrative, which comes with a $10,000 prize and a painting by New York artist Stephen Hannock. Jeff’s is the first Canadian script ever to win the award, and he is certainly the first Native American filmmaker to do so.

The selection jury was comprised of Cuba Gooding Jr., Rosario Dawson, Mekhi Phifer, and Gabourey Sidibe.

Robert De Niro introduced the awards ceremony and Jeff, John and Aisling were presented the award by Gabourey Sidibe (Precious).

What a thrilling and rewarding end to our amazing Tribeca All Access experience! Congratulations to Jeff and a huge thank you to the Tribeca Film Institute and CFC Features!

CFC Features Selects Rhymes for Young Ghouls for Development!

We’re thrilled to announce that Jeff Barnaby’s feature film script, Rhymes for Young Ghouls, has been selected for development by CFC Features!

In addition to this exciting new partnership, Rhymes for Young Ghouls has also secured funding from Telefilm and SODEC, and we are the only Canadian production participating in the Tribeca All Access program later this month.

Casting begins soon, so be sure to check back for news and updates!

Sorry, Rabbi, starring Jessica Paré, to premiere on CBC the same night as Mad Men!

This Sunday, March 25, Sorry, Rabbi will have its CBC premiere at midnight on the program Canadian Reflections, just hours after the much-anticipated Season 5 premiere of Mad Men, also starring Jessica Paré. If you haven’t had a chance to catch it on the big screen, tune in this Sunday!

In another happy coincidence, Sorry, Rabbi will also play the Cleveland International Film Festival this Sunday, March 25.

You can’t argue with serendipity!

Prospector Films is looking for a part-time production co-ordinator

Prospector Films is looking for a part time production coordinator. We want someone who is ambitious, eager, and efficient. The candidate will need to be a diligent multi-tasker and creative problem solver who can work in both the fiction and documentary worlds. This is not a training or mentorship position and requires someone who is familiar with funding bodies and production management.

Successful candidate must be bilingual and have a minimum of 2 years experience and be open to working on a wide range of tasks.

Primary duties will include:
- Scheduling shoots
- Booking crew & equipment
- Booking travel & accommodations
- Negotiating access and permission to locations and subjects
- Working closely with producers and directors on a short timeline
- Basic budgeting and cost reporting of shoots
- Assembling documents for funding applications, tax credit administration & contract administration
- Managing festival submissions
- Managing tape delivery to festivals and partners
- Assist in managing the office (supplies, cleaning, etc)
- Assist the producers in a variety of other admin and production tasks

This is a 1 year contract position with a three month trial period. The position is 3 days / week and we can offer a rate of $15 /hr. Candidates must live in Montreal and be residents of Quebec.

RHYMES FOR YOUNG GHOULS selected for Tribeca All Access Program

Prospector Films is honored to announce that Jeff Barnaby’s feature film script, Rhymes for Young Ghouls, has been selected to participate in Tribeca’s All Access program.

The program consists of 5 days of mentorship and pitch meetings. Our project is the lone Canadian film selected through Tribeca’s partnership with the Canadian Film Center. Thank you CFC & Tribeca. Also, thank you to Telefilm, SODEC and CFC Features for the moral and financial support.

This is going be an amazing experience.

Mary Spencer & Ariane Fortin win their first fights at Nationals

LAST WOMAN STANDING commences principal photography today. Lorraine Price, Juliet Lammers, Aisling Chin-Yee, Julien Fontaine & Lynne Trepanier left today for the Canadian National Boxing Championships in Membertou, NS where they will be filming all week.

We wish our main characters – Mary Spencer & Ariane Fortin – and all of the Canadian boxers participating this week the best of luck in their fights.
